Texas A&M Women’s Golfer Nixon in Contention at Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M golfer Mia Nixon recorded a 4-over 146 at the Bearkat Invitational Monday after 36 holes and was in fifth heading into the final round at the par-71 Ravens Nest Golf Club.

Nixon shot 3-over 74 in the first round and followed that up with a 1-over 72 during the next 18 holes. The redshirt sophomore sits eight shots back of the lead held by Sam Houston’s Grace Jin.

The Martins Mill, Texas, native is looking to join former Texas A&M standout Blanca Fernández García-Poggio as Aggies to win the Bearkat Invitational. Fernández García-Poggio brought home the individual trophy last year.

Sky Sudberry locked in a 7-over 149 thru 36 and was tied for ninth while Lana Calibuso-Kwee held onto a share of 26th going into Tuesday’s final round. Players during the two rounds on Monday were averaging nearly seven strokes above par with an average of 77.68 strokes per 18.
