Texas A&M Volleyball’s Cos-Okpalla Wins Second-Straight Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M volleyball’s Ifenna Cos-Okpalla was named back-to-back SEC Defensive Player of the Week following the Aggies’ sweep of South Carolina in the final match of the regular season, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Cos-Okpalla won her second-straight SEC Defensive Player of the Week award, marking her fourth total weekly honor this season. The middle blocker once again put on a defensive clinic versus the Gamecocks, spearheading A&M to a three-set sweep and first 10-win conference schedule since 2019.

The Flower Mound, Texas, native blocked eight swings versus South Carolina including two solos and six assisted. Her eight on the day, pushed her to 143 on the season, averaging out to 1.47 per set which jumped her to the top of the SEC. Offensively she added nine kills on 11 swings with zero errors to hit a staggering .818 percent, Cos-Okpalla also eclipsed 200 kills on the year thanks to her nine versus the Gamecocks becoming one of only two players in the conference with over 140 blocks and 200 kills.

Cos-Okpalla and the Aggies head to Tempe, Arizona, to open their postseason campaign, as they face Colorado State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday with first serve set for 5:30 p.m.
