Texas A&M Volleyball’s Cos-Okpalla Named SEC Player of the Week

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BIRMINGHAM – Aggie volleyball’s Ifenna Cos-Okpalla was named SEC Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week following a dominant performance at the Texas A&M Invitational, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Cos-Okpalla earned the third SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career and first Player of the Week honor, as she helped lead the Maroon & White to their seventh-straight victory after sweeping the Texas A&M Invitational. The Flower Mound, Texas native was a force at the net, denying 19 swings over the weekend, including three solo blocks in Friday’s match versus Temple which tied her career high.

The junior’s versatility was on full display throughout the invitational, as she logged 27 kills in the three matches with a season-high 12 coming in Saturday’s five-set thriller with UNH. Cos-Okpalla has now recorded two double-digit kill matches this season, which is more than her two previous seasons combined.

She and the Aggies return to action Thursday, as they head to the University of Northern Iowa to face the Panthers with first serve set for 6 p.m.
