News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team added libero Tatum Thomas to the 2024 signing class, head coach Jamie Morrison announced Thursday.
A transfer from Grand Canyon University, Thomas is a proven winner as she helped the Antelopes claim the program’s first WAC Tournament title in 2023. She also pushed GCU to its first automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in program history last year.
“We are excited to welcome Tatum to Aggieland,” Morrison said. “She brings a wealth of experience, a high work ethic and determination from her time at Grand Canyon that will benefit our entire volleyball team. I cannot wait to get her in our gym and to be a part of our family.”
Thomas led the Antelopes by example on the defensive side of the court, pacing the team as a sophomore with 391 digs which was over 100 more than her closest teammate. She also impressed across the WAC’s best, ranking top-10 in digs and digs per set (3.62) throughout the 2023 campaign. Thomas also displayed her versatility as an offensive weapon, adding 30 service aces and racking up 94 assists.
The Chandler, Arizona, native was a crucial piece for the team’s success playing all 108 sets of the 31-match season. Thomas logged 10-plus digs in 22 of her fixtures in 2023, including three outings with over 25 digs and a career-high 29 versus Iowa State.
