Texas A&M Volleyball Ready for Matchup at Oklahoma

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

NORMAN – The Texas A&M volleyball team concludes its three-match road trip Wednesday evening as it takes on Oklahoma at the McCasland Field House with first serve set for 7 p.m.

Wednesday’s matchup is the first between the teams since Oklahoma joined the SEC. The program’s sit tied for sixth in the league, with an identical 6-6 record in conference play. The Aggies hold the slight edge in the standings due to their 15-7 overall ledger, while the Sooners sit at 12-8.

The Maroon & White face a formidable defense versus Oklahoma, as it ranks No. 1 in the conference in blocks per set averaging 2.80. The Aggie offense looks to counteract the Sooners stout defense, as they’ve been on the uptick during conference play with Logan Lednicky Leading the way with 212 kills in the opening 12 league fixtures.

Despite only joining the SEC this season, Oklahoma and A&M have faced off 45 times in their history, with the Aggies dominating the all-time series 36-9. The teams met on 32 occasions while in the Big 12, where the Maroon & White held a 26-6 record. When playing in Norman, A&M win a four-to-one clip historically, as they’re 15-5 on the road.

A&M dropped its second-straight match last time out in a four-set battle at Tennessee. The story of the fixture was offense versus defense, as A&M recorded 65 kills as a group, spearheaded by Lednicky’s season-high 27, while Tennessee’s blocked 16 swings and forced 27 Maroon & White attacking errors.

Lednicky’s 27 kill outing versus the Lady Vols brought her season total to 363, pushing her past her sophomore season total of 340. Her 4.37 kills per set average ranks her third among qualifying RS/OPP’s in the nation and first in the conference.
