BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Aggie volleyball team hosts the seventh-annual Texas A&M Invitational this weekend, welcoming Temple, UNH and Louisiana to Reed Arena Sept. 13-15.
The Aggies enter the tournament after sweeping Texas State in their fourth-straight win of the campaign. A&M commanded the first set, winning 25-13. The Bobcats battled and held a slim lead for most of the second set, however the Maroon & White prevailed 26-24 after going into extras. The Aggies completed the victory with a 25-19 win in the third set, marking their third sweep of the season.
Logan Lednicky led the charge in the win over the Bobcats with 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .500, this marked her fourth-consecutive match recording 12+ kills to start the season. The Sugar Land, Texas natives’ 65 kills this season helped her eclipse 750 for her career, as she now sits just eight shy of 800.
The Maroon & White have continued to show their offensive prowess, as they lead in the nation in both kills per set (16.15) and assists per set (15.08), while asking ranking fourth in hitting percentage (.331). Maddie Waak also individually paces the country in assists per set, accounting for 12.31 per frame.
The Aggies enter the tournament with an undefeated 4-0 record and will face Temple in the opening match on Friday (6:30 p.m.). The Owls are currently 3-4 on the season and will meet the Aggies for the third time since 1998. The Maroon & White claimed victories in both previous matches, including the most recent 3-0 sweep in 2018.
On Saturday, the Aggies will compete against the University of New Hampshire (5 p.m.), which has a 3-3 season record. This will mark the first meeting between the two teams. UNH’s Hannah Serbousek and Avery LePore were recently named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team, following a pair of wins.
The Maroon & White conclude the Invitational on Sunday with a match against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (2 p.m.). The history between the two team’s dates back to 1977, with their most recent encounter in 2022 resulting in a four-set victory for A&M. The Aggies boast a perfect 3-0 record against Louisiana.
