News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team returns to Reed Arena for its home opener, as it looks to keep its undefeated start alive versus A&M-Corpus Christi Monday with first serve set for 4 p.m.
Head coach Jamie Morrison has the Aggies off to another impressive start, as they downed South Alabama and McNeese in their opening action of the season at the Jaguar Invitational. The Maroon & White kicked off the year versus the host Jaguars, a 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifier, and dominated from start to finish. A&M swept the match, outscoring its opponent by a margin of 78-59. The following day versus McNeese, the Aggies rallied from losing the opening frame to then claim the next three sets to take the win, 3-1.
The Maron & White’s offense was in full swing at the invitation, spearheaded by standout junior Logan Lednicky. The Sugar Land, Texas, native logged 34 kills over the two matches, averaging 4.86 kills per set while hitting at a staggering .482 percent clip.
Efficiency was evident throughout both matches in Mobile, as the group hit .358 versus the Jaguars and .325 against the Cowgirls. The final set versus South Alabama showed how dangerous A&M can be, as it recorded a .696 hitting percentage with 18 kills on 23 attempts and only two errors.
Monday’s challenge see’s the Islanders venture to Aggieland for the fifth meeting between the schools, a matchup the Maroon & White have dominated, winning four-straight, with three fixtures resulting in sweeps.
