Texas A&M Track & Field Opens 2025 Hosting McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team opens the 2025 campaign at home as it hosts the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational at the R.A. ‘Murray’ Fasken ’38 Indoor Track & Field facility Friday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events at 2:10 p.m.

The Aggies kickoff the season with the second-annual McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational and are coming off a pair of top-15 finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships during the 2024 season. The men placed sixth in the nation as a group, claiming eight All-America honors, while on the women’s side, the team placed 14th and had nine athletes secure All-America status.

A&M also had a stand-out showing at the 2024 SEC Indoor Championships, as the team won 11 medals as a group, including four gold, two silver and five bronze. Among the conference champions was Heather Abadie in the women’s pole vault, Sam Whitmarsh in the men’s 800m, Lamara Distin in the women’s high jump and Connor Schulman in the men’s 60m hurdles.

The Maroon & White made significant dents in the Aggie record books during last years’ indoor season, with 35 changes spread across new entries and athletes rising up the ranks. The women had 18 changes to the all-time list, while the men had 17.

Five school records were downed during the last indoor season, with three coming on the women’s side and two on the men’s. Abadie broke the women’s pole vault record with a mark of 4.40m/14-5.25, Ja’Qualon Scott downed the men’s 60m hurdles record in 7.58, Cooper Cawthra claimed the men’s mile record with a time of 3:59.05, while A&M graduates Semira Killebrew and Distin broke the women’s 60m (7.16) and women’s high jump (2.00m/6-6.75) records, respectively.
