BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s Timara Chapman and Abigail Martin garnered SEC weekly honors, as Chapman was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Martin was named Women’s Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week, the league announced Tuesday.
Chapman earned her first weekly honor following a nation-leading performance in the women’s heptathlon. She accumulated a personal-best 6,219 point total over the two days of competition, this debuted her at No. 2 on the Texas A&M all-time performers list. Chapman added career-best showings in the high jump (1.79m/5-10.5), shot put (13.63m/44-8.75) and 100m hurdles (13.50), the clearance in the high jump was also good for No. 12 in the record books.
Martin ensured back-to-back weekly awards after improving her personal best in the women’s discus for the third-consecutive week. She recorded a toss of 59.44m/195-0, which bettered her mark on the Aggies’ all-time list, as she remains at the No. 3 spot. Her performance at the 44 Farms Team Invitational helped her remain as the No. 1 freshman in the country, improving her spot nationally to No. 7 and third in the conference.
Chapman, Martin and the Aggies return to action this weekend as the team splits between the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida and Bryan Clay Invitational in California.
