With three days to spare, the Texas A&M system board of regents complies with a new state law eliminating independent faculty senates and councils.
There was no public comment before the regents unanimous vote from any of the members or the chancellor.

The day before the vote, the system’s vice chancellor of academic affairs James Hallmark presented what was enacted by state lawmakers as part of Senate Bill 37.

As of September 1, SB 37 requires the presidents of Texas public universities to appoint some members and choose the leadership of the faculty organization.
The new state law also gives term limits to members of those bodies.
