Texas A&M Swimming & Diving Dominate First Day of Invite

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M swimming & diving kicked off its annual Art Adamson Invitational Wednesday with multiple Aggies notching NCAA B-cut qualifications. The Maroon & White currently sit in first on the women’s side with 371 points, while the men hold first with 368.5 points.
Finals began with the women’s 200 free relay squad of Chloe Stepanek, Kaitlyn Owens, Kailey Kennedy and Olivia Theall recording a season-best time of 1:29.10, placing first. The men’s squad of Connor Foote, Ben Scholl, Collin Fuchs and Baylor Nelson registered an NCAA B-cut time of 1:16.95 and placed first.
Hayden Miller (4:40.93) and Stepanek (4:43.41) went one-two in the 500 final. Batuhan Filiz claimed first in the 500 free C-final with a season-best 4:25.92, while Trey Dickey posted a season-best 4:25.87 in the B-final.
Giulia Goerigk, Hannah O’Leary and Olivia Theall swept the top three spots with B-cut times in the 200 IM. Goerigk went a season-best 1:57.96, while O’Leary and Theall notched career-best times of 1:58.53 and 1:58.55, respectively. Nelson, along with Munzy Kabbara, Alex Sanchez, and Logan Brown filled four of the top five positions with B-cut times in the 200 IM A-final. Nelson topped the heat with a season-best 1:42.78 and Kabbara lowered a career-best time for the second time on the day with a 1:43.87, placing second. Sanchez went 1:45.05 and Brown posted a time of 1:45.12. Jacob Wimberly clocked a B-cut of his own with a 1:44.86, the fourth-fastest time of the night, to claim the B-final.
Foote and Scholl dominated in the men’s 50 free, with Foote going a season-best 19.10 to claim first and Scholl not far behind in second with a 19.30, good for the sixth-fastest time in school history. Owens touched the wall first in the women’s 50 free with a career-best time of 22.18, the ninth-fastest in Aggie history.
A&M closed out action on day one with a pair of wins in the 400 medley relay as the women’s squad of Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Theall and Stepanek clocked a B-cut time of 3:31.63. Owens’ 100 back leadoff time of 51.90 was a career best and the fifth-quickest in program history. The team of Nelson, Gulledge, Foote and Scholl posted a season-best B-cut time of 3:05.21 to top the men’s 400 medley relay.
The Art Adamson Invitational resumes tomorrow morning with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile App and streaming for finals can be found on SEC Network+.
