Texas A&M Softball Travels for Midweek Against North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team is slated for a Wednesday 6 p.m. first pitch against North Texas at Lovelace Stadium.

NATIONAL OUTLOOK

Texas A&M (33-9) is eighth in the RPI ranking and boasts a top 25 ranking in all four nationally recognized polls, including No. 7 in Softball America, No. 11 in the NFCA and D1 Softball polls and No. 12 in ESPN/USA Softball rankings. Statistically, the Aggies rank top 20 in the nation in numerous categories, including No. 15 in shutouts (11) and No. 20 in ERA (2.32), while the offense is No. 17 in slugging percentage (.525) and No. 18 on-base percentage (.411). Individually, Emiley Kennedy is second in the nation in complete games (17), fifth in shutouts (7), 13th in wins (17) and 19th in strikeouts (146). Jazmine Hill is No. 21 with a .531 on-base percentage.

SEC WEEKLY HONOR

Cannon registered a 1.500 OPS and was 5-for-8 at the dish with four walks in three games. Most notably, Cannon hit 3-for-3 with a double and drove in four runs, while scoring a run. The Forney, Texas, native, recorded at least one hit and one walk in each game. After starting the series opener as the designated player, Cannon started the rest of the series at first base boasting an unblemished fielding percentage with 14 putouts.

AGGIES IN THE OUTFIELD

Aggie outfielders Allie Enright, Kramer Eschete and Hill have a combined .983 fielding percentage and have recently showcased their arm strength nabbing runners down as Hill leads the trio with six outfield assists, followed by Enright with three and Eschete with two. The dynamic duo of Hill and Enright have provided the offensive firepower leading the Aggies with eight doubles each, while Enright is second on the team with nine home runs and Hill third with eight round trippers. The pair are top two on the team in OPS with Hill boasting a 1.266 OPS and Enright a 1.199 OPS.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Texas A&M is 6-1 all-time against North Texas (23-18) and are playing in Denton for the first time in program history. The two teams squared off earlier this season on March 6 with the Aggies winning via run-rule, 12-0, in five-innings. The Maroon & White put the game out of hand in the opening frame stacking eight runs on six hits, including back-to-back jacks from Jazmine Hill and Trinity Cannon.
