Texas A&M Softball Loses Pitching Duel to Kentucky

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 14 Texas A&M softball team dropped the series finale against Kentucky, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Davis Diamond.

Starting pitchers Emiley Kennedy and Stephanie Schoonover battled through a pitchers duel, including two hitless innings to begin the game. Texas A&M (31-8, 10-5 SEC) mustered the first hit after Kennedy Powell singled through the left side in the bottom of the third. Powell stole second base to put herself in scoring position, before a video review overturned the call as Powell left early on the steal.

Kennedy began the game with 4.1 hitless innings, including a stretch of seven consecutive retired batters before Kentucky (24-14, 3-9) bounced a high chopper to third for an infield single in the fifth inning.

Texas A&M’s greatest threat came in the bottom of the seventh after Jazmine Hill led off with a walk, followed by Kramer Eschete hitting a one-out single down the left field line before consecutive strikeouts ended the game.

Kennedy was saddled with the loss pitching 7.0 innings and striking out seven batters, while allowing one run on three hits and two walks.
