Texas A&M Soccer Hosts LSU

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team hosts the LSU Tigers in a crucial SEC bout Friday. Match time at Ellis Field is 7 p.m.

The Aggies (8-7-0, 3-4-0) sit in sixth place in the SEC standings nine points after dropping back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Texas A&M has caged the Tigers in the all-time series holding a 12-0-3 advantage. The initial meeting came at the NCAA Tournament second round in 2009. The teams played to a 1-1 draw with the Maroon & White advancing on penalty kicks, 4-2. The Aggies won the next 12 meetings by a combined tally of 29-5. In the 2022 season, the A&M win streak was broken by a 2-2 tie. The previous matchup between the two sides in 2023 resulted in a stalemate at 0-0 in the regular season finale.

The Maroon & White own a record of 27-0-3 against teams from Louisiana. In addition to being 12-0-3 against LSU, the unbeaten string features a 3-0-0 mark against McNeese and Northwestern State. The Aggies also have two wins apiece against Centenary, Grambling and Tulane. The Maroon & White won their only matches played against Louisiana, Southern and Louisiana Tech.

Sydney Becerra leads Texas A&M in scoring with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Grace Ivey has four goals on the year. Mia Pante also has added eight points on three goals and two assists.

The Maroon & White have posted six shutouts through 15 matches, including blank slates by three different netminders. In the SEC opener, Sydney Fuller recorded her third shutout of the season. She owns a 1.10 goals against average in her nine starts. Grace McClellan has two shutouts and Maysen Veronda recorded a 5-0 win against Lamar in the opener before a season-ending injury.

LSU (7-7-1, 2-5-0) comes to town after dropping four straight results after a 2-1-0 start to league play. The Tigers sit in 13th place in the conference standings and look for a positive result to stay in SEC tournament contention.

Ida Hermannsdottir leads the Tigers with seven goals with two braces on the season coming in back-to-back games against Louisiana and San Francisco. Ava Galligan is second on the team in points with ten, owning four goals and two assists. In the net, Audur Scheving has tallied 43 saves, three shutouts and a 1.64 goals against average while starting every game.
