Texas A&M Soccer Gets Win Over Louisiana Tech

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGTE STATION – Taylor Pounds scored two goals in a span of 55 seconds to lead the Texas A&M soccer team to a 2-0 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Sunday evening at Ellis Field, giving head coach G Guerrieri his 514th career victory.

With the triumph, Guerrieri passed retired Florida skipper Becky Burleigh on the all-time wins list for NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches. He also moved into eighth place among women’s soccer coaches in all NCAA divisions.

It was the first career brace for Pounds, who scored on a header 57:48 into the contest and added a chip-in at the 58:43 mark.

The close nature of the score throughout belied the flow of the match where the Aggies dictated the terms. Texas A&M owned a 30-2 edge in shots, including 14-2 in shots-on-goal and the Maroon & White took the only four corner kicks of the match. The Bulldogs fired a shot on goal in the first 1:10 of the match, got just one more the remainder of the match.

Grace McClellan became the third Aggie goalkeeper to record a shutout in 2024, making two saves. Once again, the back line corps including Adysen Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Bella James, Macy Matula and Margo Matula threw up a brick wall as the Aggies registered their fourth clean sheet of the season.
