News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team came up on the wrong end of a seesaw affair Wednesday evening in a 3-2 loss to the Denver Pioneers at Ellis Field.
The Aggies got on the board early with a goal in the fifth minute by MaKhiya McDonald, but the Pioneers scored in the 30th and 40th minutes to wrangle the lead away.
Allison Lowrey scored an equalizer for the Aggies in the 41st minute as the teams went into the intermission tied 2-2.
Denver (1-2) stunned the Aggies with a give-and-go goal in the 52nd minute and the Maroon & White were unable to pull back even.
Texas A&M (1-1) was left wondering ‘what could have been?’ with two shots off the top woodwork, including a Macy Matula header off a corner kick in the first half and a Mia Pante shot following a free kick in the 87th minute.
The Aggies owned the advantage in shots (19-16), but the Pioneers had the upper hand in shots-on-goal (7-6) and corner kicks (6-3). Denver’s first two goals came on the secondary action following corner kicks.
