Texas A&M Soccer Downs TCU

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGTE STATION – Two seniors scored goals and a freshman keeper kept the sheet clean as the Texas A&M soccer team notched a 2-0 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs Thursday evening at Ellis Field.

Having suffered three one-goal losses to the Horned Frogs, MaKhiya McDonald and Mia Pante prevailed in their final go at it with second-half goals. McDonald broke the scoring seal in the 53rd minute with a yeoman’s effort to get into scoring range. Six minutes later, Mia Pante added an insurance goal with an assist Andersen Williams’ long precision passing. It was the second goal of the season for both Aggies.

Sydney Fuller made five saves to record her second shutout of the season. She played behind a stout back line, including Adysen Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Bella James, Macy Matula and Margo Matula who held TCU without shot in the first half and limited the Horned Frogs’ potency in the second stanza.

The teams went into the intermission tied 0-0 despite the Aggies owning a 4-0 edge in shots. For the game, Texas A&M held the advantage in shots (12-10) and corner kicks (4-3), but TCU held the upperhand in shots on goal (5-4).

With the victory, G Guerrieri pulled even with retired Florida skipper Becky Burleigh for fourth place on the all-time NCAA Division I coaching wins list. His next triumph also moves him to eighth place on the all-time wins list across all divisions.

Texas A&M now owns a 14-3 edge in the all-time series against TCU, snapping the three-match losing streak. The Aggies have outscored the Horned Frogs 43-4 in their 14 wins.
