Texas A&M Provost A Finalist, But Not Selected As The Next Provost At The University Of Minnesota

Texas A&M provost Carol Fierke was not selected to be the new provost at the University of Minnesota.

Two weeks ago, Minnesota’s board of regents selected another finalist with ties to two universities in the University of Texas system.

Rachel Croson, who heads to Minnesota from a dean’s job at Michigan State, was a dean at Texas-Arlington and a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas.

According to the University of Minnesota newspaper Minnesota Daily, four of the 12 board of regents voted no. That’s because Croson’s base salary will be almost $500,000 dollars, which is in the middle of the pack among Big 12 universities.

And Minnesota Daily reported 11 Republican members of the Minnesota legislature sent the regents a letter stating they are “concerned and alarmed” by the size of Croson’s contract.

Dr. Fierke is in her third year as Texas A&M’s chief academic officer.
