Welsh spoke about his first year as president and his expectations for his second year.
Specific topics include tuition, student-athlete pay, relationships on and off campus and with state lawmakers, student athlete pay, and observations about the Texas A&M-University of Texas football game.

November’s meeting of the College Station ISD school board included an update about construction projects funded by voter approved bond issues in November 2023 and May 2024. CSISD assistant superintendent Josh Symank and facilities director Paul Buckner summarized the status of high school additions and renovations, renovations at Rock Prairie elementary, the second phase of CSISD’s career and technology complex, and renovations and expansions at middle school and high school athletic fields and stadiums. A pedestrian was struck by a train in College Station Thursday morning (November 21) A Union Pacific spokeswoman tells WTAW News that this happened around 7:15 a.m. on the tracks along Wellborn Road at a location that was not at a crossing. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and the train crew was not hurt. In the comments section of the College Station police department’s Facebook page, an 18 year old student was struck. The man was walking near, but not on the train tracks. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and his family was notified. CSPD’s Facebook page says the intersection of Wellborn and Holleman West was shut down while police and railroad investigators were on the scene.
A College Station woman who admits to stealing more than $300,000 dollars from a former employer is spending parts of 92 days in the Brazos County jail. 61 year old Tina Frankel entered the plea and was sentenced on Monday (November 18) for felony theft. She had been out on bond following her arrest in June of 2021 for taking the money between January 2014 and September 2020 by manipulating 323 checks as a bookkeeper. There was no plea agreement on punishment that includes jail time associated with work release as a condition of seven years probation from a ten year prison sentence. Frankel was given 90 days to pay $121,638.06 in restitution. A spokeswoman in the district attorney’s office said the victim, who lost more than $377,000 dollars according the arrest report from the Brazos County sheriff’s office, also received partial restitution as the result of liens that were placed on property that Frankel owned.
