Texas A&M Police Issue Advisory About Alcohol Poisoning

Thursday’s Texas A&M football game is the first opportunity for the public to purchase alcohol inside the stadium.

That, along with university police responding to two calls last weekend involving people going to the hospital for treatment of alcohol poisoning, leads to a reminders from UPD Lt. Bobby Richardson about the warning signs of getting sick and about drunk driving.

Richardson says signs of alcohol poisoning includes a fever or a chill, cold or clammy skin, and a slow or irregular heartbeat.

A UPD tweet also brings up the Texas 911 amnesty law. That law provides medical amnesty from alcohol possession and consumption charges against minors if they (1) request medical assistance due to alcohol consumption, (2) remain on the scene, and (3) cooperate with medical and law enforcement personnel.

Richardson says if you or someone you know has had too much alcohol to call 9-1-1. That goes for tailgaters as well as those inside the stadium.
