News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
WACO – After a strong performance at the ITA All-American Championships, the Texas A&M men’s tennis team is heading back to Waco to compete in the Big 12 – SEC Challenge from Oct. 4-6, at the Hurd Tennis Center on the Baylor University campus.
The Maroon & White return to the Challenge after going 15-3 across last year’s three days of play in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Texas A&M begins play on Friday at 12 noon with the doubles, with singles to follow beginning at 1 p.m.
Representing the Aggies in Waco are graduate Matthis Ross, senior Giulio Perego, junior Ethan Silva and redshirt freshman Ritesh Patil. The Aggies’ doubles lineup is Ross/Perego and Patil/Silva.
Perego, from Milan, Italy, is fresh off advancing to the doubles quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships with partner Togan Togac.
Ross is back on the court after sitting out last season due to injury. In the 2022-23 season, the Upper Cumberworth, England native recorded a 16-8 overall singles record.
Silva, from Harlingen, Texas, recently took home the win in the White consolation bracket at the Waco Fall Kickoff Classic in September.
Patil will be seeing his first action as a collegian after redshirting last season. A former five-star recruit, the Houston native was the nation’s No. 10 player in the 2023 signing class.
The Aggies will start the weekend with doubles play against Arizona State, followed by singles versus Baylor. Saturday’s schedule includes doubles action against Texas Tech and singles against Arizona. The Maroon & White will conclude the weekend with doubles matches against Arizona and singles versus Oklahoma State.
