News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BATON ROUGE – The No. 14 Texas A&M men’s tennis team is set for the 2024 SEC Tournament as the No. 5 seed. After a first-round bye, the Aggies will face LSU Thursday, April 18, at the LSU Tennis Complex with first serve set for 6 p.m.
“The season starts over tomorrow,” head coach Steve Denton said. “We will need to be ready for a fight at their place. It is time to regain the form we had earlier in the season. We can’t wait to get started.”
The Maroon & White (18-9, 7-5 SEC) are looking to bounce back after falling to Alabama, 4-3, in Tuscaloosa to end the regular season. The Aggies are led by Raphael Perot who was named to the 2023 All-SEC First Team and holds the position of playing court 1 in singles. The senior boasts seven ranked victories this year. Additionally, two-time SEC Player of the Week, JC Roddick, also leads the squad with a team-high 25 singles wins.
A&M defeated LSU (14-12, 1-11 SEC) earlier this season, 5-2, in Baton Rouge during the league slate. The Tigers are coming off a win against Ole Miss to advance to the second round of the SEC Tournament. If the Maroon & White defeat LSU, they will take on No. 4 seed Auburn in the quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
