Texas A&M Men’s Tennis Headed to Austin for Super Regional

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M men’s tennis team hits the road to take on No. 2 Texas in the Austin Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament Friday, May 10, at the Texas Tennis Center with first serve set for 6 p.m.

“First of all, we are excited and privileged to keep dancing,” head coach Steve Denton said. “Many schools would love to be in our shoes, with a fighting chance to keep going. Texas is a very good team and when these two old rivals get together, it is always special. I know our team is looking forward to the challenge.”

The Maroon & White (20-10) are coming off wins against Rice and San Diego to earn a spot in the Super Regional. The Aggies swept the Owls, 4-0, and turned around the next day to win a nail-biter against the Toreros, 4-2, which was highlighted by JC Roddick coming back from behind to keep A&M dancing in a three-set thriller. The Maroon & White are led by Raphael Perot and Roddick who are 2024 All-SEC First Teamers and have been mainstays on courts 1 and 2, respectively, this season.

The last matchup between A&M and Texas (24-3) went the Longhorns’ way during the 2022-23 season in Austin. Texas beat Sacramento and UCLA to make it to the Super Regional and are on a 15-match winning streak.

If the Aggies beat Texas, they will head to the final site of NCAAs May 16-19 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, which will be next on the schedule to determine the 2024 NCAA Champions.
