News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The Texas A&M men’s golf team will lift the lid on the 2024-25 campaign at one of the most prestigious season-opening tournaments with an invitation to the Sahalee Players Championship slated for Sept. 7-8.
One of the premier courses on the west coast, Sahalee Golf Club hosted a women’s golf major in June, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. It also hosted the men’s PGA Championship in 1998 as well as the men’s 2010 U.S. Senior Open and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2016.
The tournament features an elite 12-team field. Seven of the squads finished in the top 25 of the Clippd National Golf Ranking last season and ten of the teams played in NCAA regional tournaments.
The Aggies head into 2024-25 with seven returning letterwinners, including PING All-America Third Team and All-SEC Second Team performer Phichaksn Maichon and PING All-Central Region honoree Jaime Montojo. A pair of newcomers join the squad, including 2024 Arizona Amateur champion Wheaton Ennis and 2022 Florida State Golf Association Junior Player of the Year Alex Long.
The Sahalee Players Championship began in 1992 to bring the best amateur golfers in the world for a yearly competition in the Pacific Northwest. From 1992-2019 it was an independently run elite amateur tournament. After a brief hiatus due to COVID, the event returned in September 2023 as a collegiate event hosting the top men’s golf programs in the country.
