Texas A&M Men’s Golf in Fourth After Day One in North Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies battled to a fourth-place standing after Monday’s play at the inaugural Qubein Cup hosted by High Point University.

The 13 teams nearly completed two full rounds before play was halted due to darkness. Seventy-four of the 84 golfers made the two circuits with the other 10 needing to finish one hole Tuesday morning. Two Aggie golfers, Wheaton Ennis and Jack Usner, are among the 10 who did not complete the second round.

The Maroon & White posted an opening round of 296 at the par-70, 7,130-yard Sedgefield Country Club. They currently stand at 16-over and are tracking for the best second round score of the tournament at even.

Chattanooga leads the field at 8-over The Aggies will also be chasing Nebraska (+14) and Michigan (+14) in Tuesday’s actions with all of the top four teams needing golfers to complete the second round.

With one hole remaining in the second round, Ennis is tied for seventh place at 3-over. He shot a 73 in the opening round and is even through 17 holes in round two.

Aaron Pounds finished two loops at 5-over 145, with rounds of 75 and 70 to sit in a tie for 15th place. Usner is tied for 21st place at 6-under through 17 holes of round two.

Michael Heidelbaugh and Phichaksn Maichon are tied for 28th place at 7-over 147. Heidelbaugh carded rounds of 76 and 71 while Maichon checked in at 72 and 75.

In his first action as an Aggie, transfer Jacob Sosa registered rounds of 75 and 74 playing as an individual. He heads into the final round tied for 38th place at 9-over 149.
