News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – With the all-important NET rankings in mind, the Texas A&M men’s basketball team has constructed perhaps its toughest non-conference schedule in school history.
For the first time in program history, the Aggies’ non-conference slate features five opponents from the power conferences without factoring in possible opponents from in-season tournaments.
Additionally, the Aggies face a stiff challenge at the star-studded Players Era Festival In Las Vegas during the week of Thanksgiving, which features six teams that were in the NCAA Tournament last season.
In a rarity, a pair of power conference opponents will be coming to Reed Arena this fall – Ohio State from the Big Ten on Friday, Nov. 15 and Wake Forest from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, Dec. 3 as part of the SEC-ACC Challenge. Ohio State has 31 NCAA Tournament appearances in its history, including the 1960 national championship, while Wake Forest has been to the “Big Dance” 21 times.
Only two Big Ten teams have ever played in College Station – Penn State in 2005 and Northwestern in 1993. The only time an ACC team has played a regular season game in College Station was Clemson in 1996, although Clemson and Wake Forest came to Aggieland for the NIT in 2005 and 2022, respectively.
The Aggies open the season with a road trip to Orlando, Florida to face UCF of the Big 12 Conference on Monday, Nov. 4. The Golden Knights tallied three wins over AP Top 25 opponents last season, including a 65-60 victory over then-No. 3 Kansas.
December features a pair of tough neutral-site matchups with Texas Tech of the Big 12 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Sunday, Dec. 8 and last season’s NCAA runner-up Purdue at the home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis on Saturday, Dec. 14. The Red Raiders won 23 games in head coach Grant McCasland’s first season in Lubbock and earned 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Over the past three seasons, the Boilermakers have won 92 games, which ranks No. 2 among all DI schools.
Other non-conference opponents coming to Reed Arena are Texas A&M-Commerce (Nov. 8), Lamar (Nov. 11), Southern (Nov. 20), HCU (Dec. 20) and ACU (Dec. 28).
Season tickets are available for purchase now on 12thManFoundation.com or by calling 888-992-4443.
Times and TV designations are still to be determined.
