Texas A&M Football’s Scourton Chuck Bednarik Award Semifinalist

PHILADELPHIA – Texas A&M defensive lineman Nic Scourton was named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday morning. The award annually recognizes the most outstanding defensive player in the nation.

Scourton is third in the SEC and ranks 10th nationally with 12.5 tackles for loss on the year, 10.0 of which have come in league play. The junior has registered at least 1.0 tackle for loss in seven of the nine games this year. He also comes in at 11th in the league with 5.0 sacks on the season. Scourton put up career numbers in the win over Arkansas as all four of his tackles were for a total of 16 yards lost, while one of his two sacks was a strip sack late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Aggies.

A native of Bryan, Texas, Scourton has played in a key role in helping the Maroon & White rank 25th in county with 63.0 tackles for loss this year and among the top-30 nationally in turnover margin (0.67) and opponent third down conversions (33.1%). Scourton and the Aggies have also held their opponents to 100-or-fewer rushing yards in five games this season, most recently limiting LSU to just 24 yards on the ground.

Semifinalist voting for the award presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Tuesday Nov. 12 and will close on Nov. 23. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 26 and a finalist round of voting will take place at that time. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media.

The winner of the 30th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 12. The formal presentation of the Bednarik Award will take place at the 88th Maxwell Awards Gala which will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
