News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
NEW YORK – Texas A&M’s Donovan Green was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, Friday morning. The award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.
Green started four of the 10 games he appeared in 2022, prior to missing the 2023 season after an ACL injury in fall training camp. As a freshman, he averaged 10.6 yards per reception totaling 22 catches for 233 yards and registered a touchdown catch against Alabama and LSU. The Dickinson, Texas, native ended his rookie campaign with a catch in nine consecutive games. He was named to the College Football News Freshman All-America Honorable Mention Team and won the Aggie Offense Top Newcomer award at the annual team’s banquet in 2022.
Established in 2000 by the Nassau County Sports Commission, the award is given to the tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics and community values of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey. The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award selection Committee.
The John Mackey Preseason Watch List will be narrowed to eight semi-finalists on Oct. 29, while three finalists will be announced on Nov. 26. The 2024 John Mackey Award winner will be announced on the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12.
