Texas A&M Football has Reed and Zuhn III Earn SEC Weekly Honors

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed and Trey Zuhn III earned SEC weekly honors after helping lead the Aggies to a conference road victory over Florida. Reed garnered SEC Freshman of the Week recognition and Zuhn was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.

In his first career start, Reed completed 11-of-17 passes for 178 yards and two scoring strikes, while adding 83 yards rushing on 13 carries and one touchdown. Reed is the first Aggie freshman quarterback to pass for 175-plus yards and rush for 75-plus yards in the same game since Kellen Mond threw for 216 yards and rushed for 109 against Arkansas on Sept. 23, 2017. The dual-threat quarterback completed a pass to eight different receivers and registered five passes of 15-plus yards, including a 73-yard scoring strike. Reed recorded four rushes of 10-plus yards, including a team-long 31-yard rush in the game’s opening drive.

Zuhn helped clear the way for the Aggie rushing attack to tally 310 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, while accumulating 488 total offensive yards. The season-long captain has been a key piece of A&M’s offensive line success in leading the SEC with just 6.0 tackles for loss allowed and ranking second in the league yielding only 2.0 sacks this season. As an offense, the Aggies rank No. 9 in rushing in the country, averaging 263.0 yards per game and have racked up over 300 yards on the ground in two of the three games this season.

Reed and Zuhn helped orchestrate a 15-play 99-yard scoring drive in the second quarter, after a 9-play 92-yard touchdown drive in the opening quarter. It marked the first time A&M has had two 90-plus yard scoring drives in the same game since 2007.

The Aggie duo marks the first pair to win weekly honors in the same week since Conner Weigman was named SEC Freshman of the Week and De’Von Achane earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 28, 2022.
