Ribbon Cutting Saturday At The New Home Of A Local Non-Profit Providing Free School Supplies To Teachers And Other School Employees

There is a new purpose for Bryan ISD’s former warehouse near Bonham and Sadberry schools. It is the new collection and distribution location for the volunteer “Teacher Closet” project. Director Monica Martinez, who is a fulltime teacher, says supplies are given to a variety of school employees who show their ID badge. In addition to teachers, supplies have been given to custodians, paraprofessionals, principals, and aides. Martinez says 350 recipients the last two and a half years have come to their original location, which were three donated storage units. Recipients have come from not only Bryan and College Station, but from rural schools like Snook and Mumford to as far away as Tomball and San Antonio. Martinez says everyone is invited to a chamber of commerce ribbon cutting at the new location Saturday morning (May 17) from 10 a.m. until noon. Donations will be accepted and distribution to school employees will be done during the reception. The range of donated supplies includes permanent markers, pencils, pencil sharpeners, glue, lined paper, construction paper, card stock, notebooks, composition notebooks, clipboards, calendars, bulletin boards, and bulletin board decorations. Second Armed Robbery Suspect Sought By College Station Police Is Found

A second suspect in a January armed robbery at an apartment in College Station’s Northgate district is found. On April 22nd, College Station police posted on its Facebook page, requesting public assistance in finding 23 year old Adrianna Wells of Bryan. Brazos County jail records show Wells was booked on Tuesday (May 12) and released the same day after posting a $75,000 dollar bond. According to a WTAW Facebook post, Wells turned herself in. Still in jail as of May 15 is 18 year old Degarray Curley of Bryan. He is held on a $300,000 dollar bond plus two holds from Harris County. CSPD arrest reports say both suspects pointed a gun at the victim and took a PlayStation. Wells’s arrest report says she denied participating in the robbery and denies knowing Curley, who is also accused of capital murder in Houston. Original story, April 22, 2025: College Station police went to social media to announce its search for a second armed robbery suspect. CSPD’s Facebook page says Adrianna Markell Wells, whose age and hometown were not released, was involved in a January holdup in the Northgate district. Wells is considered to be armed and dangerous. An accomplice, 18 year old Degarray Curley of Bryan, was arrested last Thursday (April 17) by CSPD’s SWAT team during a high risk traffic stop in Bryan. CSPD’s arrest report of Curley says Wells “utilized a ruse” to get the victim to open the door of his residence. Wells and Curley are accused of pointing guns at the victim and taking his PlayStation. The victim and his brother told investigators they recognized Curley, who was wearing a ski mask. Using social media, investigators identified Wells. Curley, is also accused of capital murder in Houston, remains held in the Brazos County jail as of April 22 on the armed robbery charge in lieu of a $300,000 dollar bond.

College Station City Council Discusses Beautifying Retention And Detention Ponds

Up to 12 inches of rain during the first week of May tested the capacity of retention and detention ponds. That was a subject that was discussed by the College Station city council the week before the rains. Councilman Scott Shafer, who asked for a staff presentation, is seeking ponds to be more pleasant to the eye. One example he gave about improving aesthetics was by adding trees around ponds. City engineer Carol Cotter said most ponds are privately owned and maintained. The council consensus was to direct staff to look into incentives for ponds on commercial properties and explore what can be done at ponds that are owned by the city and by private owners in residential neighborhoods.
