Members of the Texas A&M faculty senate get an update on the interchange that will be built at George Bush Drive and Wellborn Road.

Debbie Albert at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) says faculty input can make the construction process less messy.

Faculty members are asked to participate in a survey. Albert says out of 3,000 responses, very few have come from faculty members.

Albert says the current timetable calls for construction to start as soon as the spring of 2026.

Albert says the current design is a deeper version of what is at Wellborn and Old Main. Traffic on George Bush is currently designed to go 35 feet below Wellborn and the railroad. In between, will be a pedestrian path.

Over 300,000 cubic yards of dirt will be removed. And the project design includes a pump station and a detention pond at the former site of a McDonald’s to remove and store storm water during rain events.
