Texas A&M Creates Task Force for Football Thursday

For the second year in a row, Texas A&M football’s season opener is scheduled on a Thursday.

Dr. Jerry Strawser, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, is leading a task force of students, faculty, staff and community members to provide recommendations for a successful class day and game day experience.

“Last year, when we did this for the first time, we tried to brainstorm what might happen and what the impact might be and how we might make it smooth. We have the benefit this year of having the experience of last year,” said Dr. Strawser.

Dr. Strawser said the two main concerns are transportation and parking.

“Parking is a little bit of a challenge because a lot of the lots that are used by the 12th Man Foundation for their fans are the same lots students use to park, so we’ve had to make some accommodations,” said Strawser.

On transportation he said, “When we bring football in, not only do they have to our normal transit, which is taking students from off campus to on campus, we are now layering into that the need to service busing football fans from different parking lots to Kyle Field. We almost have to run two parallel services.”

The task force wants public feedback to ensure a successful class day and game day experience. Click here to find out more about Football Thursday and give your input.
