DALLAS – Texas A&M reliever Evan Aschenbeck has been named one of 10 finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, which recognizes the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.
In 26 appearances this season, the lefty has registered a 6-1 record to go along with a 1.64 ERA and 0.83 WHIP, both of which lead the nation. The senior has also logged an SEC-best seven saves. In 60.1 innings of works, Aschenbeck has racked up 65 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .190 batting average. Of senior’s 26 appearances, 22 have been for multiple innings and 18 have been scoreless.
The left-hander also enters the weekend ranked fifth nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.13) and fifth in walks allowed per nine (1.19).
Eight conferences are represented with finalists, as Conference USA and the SEC lead the way with two each. Other conferences included are the Atlantic Coast Conference, the American Athletic Conference, the Big 12 Conference, the Big West Conference, the Pac-12 Conference and the West Coast Conference.
The Stopper of the Year recipient will be announced via a news conference on Friday, June 14, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
