News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
OMAHA – Four members of the No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team collected All-America honors from Baseball America Friday morning.
The four selections are the most in the nation and the third time this season the Aggies have garnered four or more All-America honors from a major outlet.
Outfielder Jace LaViolette earned a spot on the first team, while fellow outfielder Braden Montgomery and reliever Evan Aschenbeck garnered second team honors. Starting pitcher Ryan Prager rounded out the All-America selections for the Aggies as the lefty was named to the third team.
For LaViolette, the All-America selection marked his third of the season and second first team honor. The lefty slugger is in the midst of a monster sophomore campaign that has seen him belt 28 homers and drive in 77 RBI, while batting .306. The Maroon & White center fielder’s 28 long balls are the second most in program history and upped his career total to 49, which is third all-time in the Texas A&M record books. Nationally, LaViolette ranks fifth in runs (85), fifth in walks (61), sixth in homers, 12th in total bases (182) and 14th in RBI. The sophomore’s 61 walks are a program record for a single season.
In 65 games, the sophomore has registered 22 multi-hit, 20 multi-RBI and six multi-homer performances. The lefty slugger is also riding a career-best 23-game on-base streak.
Aschenbeck, who collected his fourth All-America selection of the year, has been brilliant in 30 relief appearances this season for Texas A&M. The 2024 NCBWA Stopper of the Year holds a 6-1 record and leads the nation with a 1.54 ERA. In 70 innings of work, the lefty has totaled an SEC-best 10 saves, struck out 77 batters to only 12 walks and has held opponents to a .185 batting average. The senior also ranks second nationally in WHIP (0.84) and seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.42).
Of his 30 appearances, 26 have been for multiple innings and 20 have been scoreless outings.
Prior to a season-ending injury, Montgomery started 61 games for the Aggies and logged a .322/.454/.733 slash line. The switch-hitter belted 27 homers and drove in an SEC-best 85 RBI to go along with 14 doubles and a triple. The junior also led Texas A&M with 25 multi-hit and 25 multi-RBI performances.
In 18 starts this season for the Maroon & White, Prager has compiled a 9-1 record to go along with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. In 93.2 innings of work, the lefty has punched out 118 batters and is holding opponents to a .216 batting average. The redshirt sophomore has also tossed nine quality starts this season and logged seven scoreless outings.
The lefty’s latest gem came at the College World Series, where he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in a 5-1 win over Kentucky. The 6.2 innings of no-hit baseball marked the second-longest in College World Series history.
The Aggies will look to clinch their first national title in program history as they face No. 1 Tennessee in the College World Series finals starting Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
