The review has started by the Commission on Presidential Debates for next year’s presidential and vice-presidential debates.
Texas A&M is one of 16 applicants and one of three located in the Lone Star State.
College Station mayor Nancy Berry says the commission has come to town looking into holding a debate at two possible sites on the A&M campus, Reed Arena and the Rudder Theater complex.
Leading the A&M application is associate vice president for strategic planning Dr. Jose Bermudez. He recently told the Bryan school board the debate would make a positive impact on voter participation, particularly in the 18-24 year old age group. He also said the debate would generate more exposure than the Super Bowl.
Resolutions supporting the debates have been adopted by the Bryan and College Station school boards, both city councils, and the Brazos County Commission.
