Texas A&M All-American Pierson Named USTA Summer Coaching Fellow

COLLEGE STATION – Former Texas A&M women’s tennis All-American Rachel Pierson was named one of five professional coaching fellows at the United States Tennis Association in Orlando, Fla., announced Thursday by the USTA.

“Congratulations to Rachel for being selected by the USTA Player Development program,” Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. “Rachel was a great student-athlete during her time at Texas A&M and ultimately became our first ever All-American in both singles and doubles. There is no doubt that she has the coaching gene in her DNA and will do a great job in Orlando this summer.”

Pierson made history in the Maroon & White becoming the first Aggie to earn All-American honors in both singles and doubles following the 2017 season. The Princeton, New Jersey native finished her career 64-43 in Aggieland after spending her freshman season at Virginia. The right-hander spent last season as the Volunteer Assistant Coach at Princeton, where the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round and claimed the Ivy League crown with a perfect 7-0 conference record.

The Fellowship program, which begins Monday and runs through the 2019 US Open, is structured to provide significant experiential training and opportunity for independent research in the field of professional tennis coaching. The program is based out of the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Fla., and includes traveling with a coaching mentor.
