Testimony Starts in Thuesen Trial

Testimony has started in the capital murder trial of John Thuesen.

Thuesen is accused of shooting his girlfriend and her brother in their home 14 months ago. Rachel and Travis Joiner of Eldorado were students at A&M.

Prosecutors with the Brazos County District Attorney’s office presented opening statements Monday morning. They allege Thuesen shot Rachel and Travis Joiner out of rage. The rage was the resuilt of Rachel studying with an ex-boyfriernd. The former boyfriend, 23 year old Johnny Mathis, was among the first witnesses.

Defense attorneys representing Thuesen announced they would present their opening remarks before starting their case, which follows the conclusion of prosecution witnesses.

12 jurors and two alternates are hearing evidence at the trial, presided by District Judge Travis Bryan.
