Sydney Pickrem Sets Canadian Record in 200 IM, Wins Bronze

Toronto, Ontario – Incoming Aggie freshman Sydney Pickrem set the Canadian record in the 200 IM prelims of the 2015 Pan American Games, then went on to win the bronze medal in the event.

Pickrem, who will join the Texas A&M Swimming & Diving team in the fall but is swimming for Team Canada in the Pan American Games, set the new national record at 2:11.16, previously held by Erica Morningstar (2:11.23). Pickrem now holds the sixth-fastest time in the world in the event.

In the 200 IM A-final, Pickrem swam her way onto the podium, earning third-place with a 2:11.29 performance. Team Canada is currently in second place overall with 131 total medals behind USA’s 149.

The 2015 Pan American Games will continue through July 26.
