Suspect’s Gun Matched to Bexar County Deputy’s Killing

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Ballistic tests show a rifle seized from the home of a man accused in the ambush killing of a South Texas deputy is a match to the weapon allegedly used in the slaying.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday announced forensic results on the MP-15 found at the mobile home of Mark Anthony Gonzales.

Gonzales, who was arrested Sunday, is charged with capital murder and jailed on $1.5 million bond. Detective Louis Antu says Gonzales has requested an attorney, but he had no information Tuesday on whether one has been assigned.

Investigators say a friend of the suspect reported that Gonzales was likely behind the May 28 shooting of Sgt. Kenneth Vann at a stoplight. Authorities believe Gonzales was drunk and on anti-depression medication during the unprovoked attack.
