Suspect’s Cousin Says He Admitted to Burning Boy 15 Years Ago

CONROE, Texas (AP) _ The cousin of a Southeast Texas man accused of dousing a boy with gasoline as a teenager in 1998 says her cousin confessed to her that he and another boy were responsible for the attack.

Prosecutors are trying to persuade a judge Monday in Conroe (KAHN’-roh) that 28-year-old Don Willburn Collins should face trial as an adult for a crime he’s accused of committing at age 13.

Collins faces a murder charge in Robert Middleton’s death. Authorities say he poured gasoline on Middleton and ignited him on Middleton’s eighth birthday.
Middleton survived but died in 2011 of skin cancer authorities blame on his burns.

Collins’ attorney questions the constitutionality of the case.
