Suspects Arrested in Houston Teacher’s Death

WHARTON, Texas (AP) _ Authorities say two suspects wanted for questioning in the death of a Houston teacher were arrested while entering the U.S. from Mexico.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says Monica Perez and Michael Moreno, both of Wharton, were detained at an international bridge in Brownsville on Friday night.

Officer Marshall Johnson of the Wharton County sheriff’s office said Perez, 24, and Moreno, 23, were being held Saturday on a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution, known felon. Johnson said there was no attorney information for either suspect.

The body of 35-year-old Heladio Rojas Perales of Galena Park was found Thanksgiving morning in his sport utility vehicle in Fort Bend County. The Houston school district teacher was reported missing by his family earlier in the day.

Wharton is 60 miles southwest of Houston.
