Suspect Arrested in Bexar County Deputy’s Murder

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A 41-year-old San Antonio-area man has been arrested on a capital murder warrant in the slaying a week before of a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy.

Federal and local officials arrested Mark Anthony Gonzales at his home 15 miles south of San Antonio. Bexar County Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz told reporters that “everyone’s really relieved” to have a suspect in custody in the May 28 death of sheriff’s Sgt. Kenneth Vann at a San Antonio intersection.

The arrest comes two days after Vann was buried with full military and sheriff’s office honors. Investigators say someone in a blue pickup truck pulled up to Vann’s patrol car at an east San Antonio intersection and fatally shot him.
