Supporters of Changing Bryan City Charter Keep Working

While the Bryan city council at its last meeting tabled a request to place three proposals to change the city charter, supporters continue to collect signatures.

During the public comment portion of the council meeting, Citizens For Bryan spokeswoman Karen Hall said they are willing to assist with the election. She said the city’s election cost could be “zero”.

Thursday night, the Sul Ross Neighborhood Association is hosting a petition signing party for the Citizens For Bryan Group, at Sul Ross Elementary School from 6:30 until 8:30.

The petition needs about 1,400 signatures of registered voters by July 1st who are not on the suspended list. Hall says they are shooting for 2,000 signatures.

Supporters want to ban relatives of council members from being hired or appointed to city positions, ban councilmembers from considering items presented by campaign donors of more than $250 dollars, and ban council members from mentioning their position when campaigning for other political candidates.
