COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian senior Laura Sumrall’s successes in reining in the past three meets earned her SEC February Rider of the Month honors, the Southeastern Conference office announced today.
The Summit, Miss., native went 2-1 on the month, which brought her win tally to ten for the season. This is the senior’s second consecutive season with double digit victories.
Sumrall had wins against No. 2 South Carolina and No. 3 Georgia, winning by a combined 7.5 points. Her victory against South Carolina was part of a five-win sweep by the Aggies that allowed the team to clinch the overall victory. Sumrall’s only loss this month came was a 3.5 point decision against then No. 1 Baylor, which was also her only loss on the 2014-15 season.
The senior leads the team in wins and win percent and her 10-1 record is her best start to a season during her four years in the Maroon & White. Sumrall is a leader to her teammates on and off the field of competition.
“I am very proud of Laura for her leadership and her success,” said head coach Tana McKay. “She has been a great influence on this team.”
The eighth-ranked Aggies (6-5, 2-3 SEC) return home on Saturday, March 14, to host No. 7 Auburn in their final regular season meet of the year. The Aggies are currently 6-0 at home, including two victories over SEC foes.
