HOUSTON (AP) _ A school bus a 15-year-old girl had just gotten off of struck and killed her as she attempted to cross a street.
The suburban Houston student had just gotten off the Aldine Independent School District bus and went in front of it when she was hit about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
D.A. Coleman with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office traffic division said witnesses told investigators that the girl briefly grabbed the front bumper as she was hit, then fell under the bus.
School district spokesman Mike Keeney said the teenager was a good student at MacArthur Ninth Grade School and was very popular, the Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition Wednesday.
Keeney said grief counselors will be on the ninth grade campus today and MacArthur has canceled TAKS testing for the day.
