Student Wounded in Shooting at Houston High School

HOUSTON (AP) _ School officials say an 18-year-old student has been charged with aggravated assault after he brought a gun inside a Houston high school and shot a classmate in the leg.

A statement from the North Forest Independent School District Tuesday night says North Forest High School senior Warren Eugene Lewis has been taken to Harris County Jail in Houston.

Jail records didn’t yet list Lewis or an attorney for the students as of late Tuesday night.

The shooting happened despite metal detectors that are supposed to keep weapons off campus. School district spokeswoman says the wounded 16-year-old freshman was apparently a bystander to a dispute between the shooter and some others in an upstairs hallway.

Davis says the boy was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
