If called on to pitch in Tuesday’s game, Stripling would be the first Aggie to take the mound in an MLB All-Star Game and the first Texas A&M player to play in the game since Chuck Knoblauch in 1997. Michael Wacha earned a spot on the NL roster for the 2015 All-Star Game, but did not see action in the exhibition.
For his career, Stripling is 15-16 with two saves in 95 games, including 29 starts. He owns a 3.31 ERA with 251 strikeouts in 263.2 innings.
Last season, posted a 3-5 record with two saves and a 3.75 ERA in 49 outings, including 47 out of the bullpen. He joined the list of eight former Texas A&M standouts who played in the World Series. He made three appearances out of the bullpen for the Dodgers against the Houston Astros, posting 2.0 scoreless innings.
As a rookie, Stripling took a no-hitter into the eighth inning his first career appearance. He ended the season with a 5-9 record to go with a 3.96 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 22 appearances, including 14 starts.
Prior to Stripling’s appointment, five Aggies earned spots on a total of 13 All-Star Game rosters, paced by Knoblauch and Davey Johnson with four apiece. Knoblauch was selected as a reserve on four occasions, all with the Minnesota Twins (1992, ’94, ’96, ’97). Johnson earned spots on the American League team on three occasions (1968-70), including being named the starting second baseman in 1970, and the NL squad in 1973. He did not play in the 1969 game. Johnson was also the winning manager of the 1987 All-Star game as the National League posted a 2-0 victory in 13 innings.
Wally Moon made three All-Star Game appearances, including starting both the July 1959 and August 1959 games in leftfield for the National League. Beau Bell was selected as a reserve for the 1937 All-Star Game, but all eight American League position starters played the entire game.
The Southlake Carroll High School product was named All-America First Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association in 2011. He also earned All-America Third Team from NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball as a junior. He was 14-2 with four saves, a 2.29 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 24 appearances.
During his career in College Station, Stripling logged a 31-11 record with four saves, a 3.13 ERA and 340 strikeouts. He ranks second on the Aggies’ career list for innings pitched (353.2) and third for wins and strikeouts. He was a two-time All-Big 12 First Team choice.
