Street Closing And Project Update In Bryan & New Traffic Signals In College Station

A road closure and turning on two traffic signals are greeting motorists in the twin cities this week.

The city of Bryan reported Monday was the first day Sims Avenue was closed between Willilam Joel Bryan and 27th Street for road construction and maintenance. The closure will last six weeks, weather permitting.

City manager Kean Register provided an update on two nearby projects west of downtown Bryan during the last council meeting. Register says the final review is coming on new sidewalks that have been built on the north side of 28th between Sims and Logan. And construction of new paving and sidewalks on 26th is expected to be completed next month.

Register also reported on South College south of Villa Maria, the city’s portion of the roadway is substantially completed, but lanes will be closed into the fall as TxDOT continues sidewalk construction.

In College Station, the first of two new traffic signals was turned on following the Monday morning commute. That’s at Wellborn at Balcones…which is south of Harvey Mitchell at the entrance to the new Jones Crossing shopping center.

On Tuesday after the morning commute, new signals will be turned on at Longmire and Graham.
