Storm Victims Could Be Without Power for Days

DALLAS (AP) _ Thousands of homes and businesses in North Texas could remain without electric power through the weekend.

The storms had left up to 260,000 Oncor Electric Delivery customers in North Texas were left without power early Thursday.

According to messages on Oncor’s Twitter Web page, fewer than 120,000 remained in the dark just before daybreak today with full restoration of service not expected before Monday.

The Oncor page said Thursday’s devastation to its system was the third-worst on record.

With heat-index readings expected to reach triple digits throughout he weekend, Oncor official urged those still without power to seek alternate shelter.

In Central Texas, severe weather last night downed trees and power lines and overturned parked airplanes in Burnet County and caused problems with phone service in Round Rock.

The National Weather Service in Austin says a couple of possible tornadoes and several funnel clouds were reported in the northern Austin suburbs but no significant damage was reported.
