State Officials Focus on Terror Drill

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas emergency officials are participating in a week-long practice run on preventing a terror attack. Operation Texas Watch organizers intend to help state officials share intelligence with local, federal and international partners.

Gov. Rick Perry’s aides say state officials have been given a scenario in which a terror attack has occurred outside the country. Their job is to prevent terrorists from entering the U.S. to carry out further attacks.

Jack Colley is director of the governor’s division of emergency management. He says Texas has run more than 300 drills since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Colley wouldn’t reveal details on the practice scenario and what kind of terror attack it simulates.
